Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Database Engineer/Administrator to design, manage, and optimize database systems in both cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate ensures high availability, performance, and security of all data assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage relational databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL,
  • Oracle) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cosmos DB, DynamoDB)
  • Administer cloud-managed database services such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS/Aurora, or
    equivalent
  • Perform database performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies
  • Implement and test backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Manage database security including access controls, encryption, and audit logging
  • Monitor database health, availability, and performance using appropriate tools
  • Develop and maintain database schemas, stored procedures, and migration scripts
  • Collaborate with application and cloud teams for database integration and scaling
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements

Migration Activities

  • Assess source databases for migration readiness using tools like AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), Azure Database Migration Assessment, or ora2pg
  • Plan and execute heterogeneous and homogeneous database migrations (e.g., Oracle to PostgreSQL, SQL Server to Azure SQL, MySQL to Aurora)
  • Perform schema conversion, data type mapping, and stored procedure refactoring for target database compatibility
  • Execute large-scale data migrations using AWS DMS, Azure Database Migration Service, or custom ETL pipelines
  • Implement Change Data Capture (CDC) for near-zero downtime migrations with continuous replication
  • Conduct pre-migration and post-migration data validation to ensure data integrity and consistency
  • Perform database cutover planning, including final sync, application switchover, and rollback strategy
  • Migrate database security configurations including users, roles, permissions, and encryption settings to target environment
  • Optimize migrated databases for cloud-native performance including right-sizing, indexing, and parameter tuning
  • Document migration runbooks, data mapping documents, and post-migration support procedures

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of experience as a Database Engineer or DBA
  • Strong expertise in SQL and at least one RDBMS (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle)
  • Experience with cloud database services (Azure SQL / Cosmos DB, AWS RDS / Aurora / DynamoDB)
  • Proficiency in query tuning, indexing, and execution plan analysis
  • Hands-on experience with database migration tools (AWS DMS, Azure DMS, SCT, ora2pg)
  • Experience with CDC tools and replication strategies for live migrations
  • Knowledge of HA/DR strategies (replication, clustering, failover)
  • Scripting skills in SQL, Python, or PowerShell for automation
